Kronemer Field

Kronemer Field, named after Old Lady Dorothy, is our current playground for McCurdy Wiffle Ball. The photo is from the home plate area- see those tall skinny trees? Immediately before those trees is about three feet of soil suitable for flowers with a brick border. That border is the line for home runs- if you hit the side of the house, it’s worth two runs and the roof is three runs. Look at the photo again- there is at least twenty feet between those trees and the house- twenty feet is a long way for a wiffle ball.

On the right side of the field, with the nice porch, is Old Lady Dorothy’s house – all of it foul territory. To the right are trees and then wetlands. While we always attempt to track down any errant wiffle balls that are hit into those trees, sometimes they just can’t be found, which is another good reason to take a few extra balls with you.

By the way, Old Lady Dorothy is actually young and ravishing, but we have to refer to her as Old Lady when talking about her yard. That’s just the rule.

This has been a good field for us, as the foul and home run territories are easily definable and therefore there are fewer arguments during the course of a game. This is where Tim hit a towering fly ball that actually went over the roof of the far house, and then over the roof of the adjoining house as well!

OK, that’s a lie, but I wanted to trot it out there before Tim does, because he IS going to make that claim in less than five years. It’s the only way he knows how to cheat at at this game.

Update– Dorothy actually moved away to another part of town some time in 2015 and the new owner has pretty much destroyed our field. Actually, her backyard looks pretty nice, with plants, benches, and a fire pit but seriously, that’s like converting a restaurant into a church- how does that help anyone?
