Winnie and Ray

Dear Diary,

Today I finally re-connected with my wonderful cousins- I hadn’t seen them in, like, forever. It was so much fun! My cousins are so cool- I had completely forgotten how awesome Mike is and how much Tim cheats at Euchre and wiffle-ball and, well, everything. It brought back so many happy memories!

On the first day, we went out on the boat to fish. I wasn’t catching many fish but it was still wonderful just to be with everyone.  I wasn’t the only new one- my awesome cousin Mike had two of his awesome sons there, Tim & Ray, and this was the first time for Ray as well. He went fishing with us too, and did pretty good with the old fishing rod. I was so excited that I decided to do something special and threw the anchor off the boat, even though it wasn’t tied on! You should have seen everyone’s faces as we drifted around the lake! Ha ha! Ray might be good at fishing but he drifts around just like everyone else.

He does know how to play McCurdy Wiffle Ball, though. Oh diary, McCurdy Wiffle Ball has to be the best wiffle ball game in the world! It took me a while to get the hang of it, but Ray just smacked the ball all over the place, plus he learned how to play Euchre for the very first time in his life, and it turns out he’s a pretty smart guy, because he and I partnered up and almost won the entire Euchre tournament!  Can you imagine? I hadn’t played in a long time and I was so excited about coming in second that I got up in the middle of the night, sneaked out to the boat, and threw the new anchor out in the middle of the lake again!

Sometimes we watched football on TV, which I can do pretty well, and it was great to hang out with my extended family.  Not sure, dear diary, exactly how he pulls it off, but Ray actually does a better job watching football games on TV than me. He knew a lot more about college football in general!  It didn’t really bother me, since he is so nice and cool, but I have to admit that while everyone was sleeping that night, I broke into Uncle Bill’s car and threw a bunch of his crap into the lake.

Oh, and the White Castle dinner!  You know how the McCurdys are, everything turns into a contest, so we started counting the number of sliders we could eat, and while I try not to brag, I have a pretty good reputation for putting them away. Everyone was amazed at the number of tiny little burger cartons that were piling up next to my plate, then someone shouted, “Look at Ray” and as it turns out, he had eaten even more than me! A LOT more!  Isn’t that hilarious? We all laughed and laughed! Then, when Ray went downstairs, I followed him, knocked him out with  the newest anchor that Uncle Bill had bought (and was keeping in his room for some reason), dragged him to the storage area, and covered him with a tarp, then I threw that anchor out into the lake too, but the joke was on me! He showed up about twenty minutes later and asked if anyone wanted to play Euchre with him. Ha ha!

Anyhow, my sweetest diary and confidant, it was a time I will always remember, and I am looking forward to returning every year.  I renewed so many relationships, and made so many new ones, and seriously, Ray is really such a neat guy. I don’t know if I can wait until next year to see him again. Maybe I can travel to where he lives sometime, and surprise him. He wouldn’t even see me coming. That would be wonderful!
